Major breakthrough expected in heroin smuggling cases

KARACHI: A major breakthrough is expected in the investigation by the Customs and other intelligence agencies to stop heroin smuggling through the national carrier, it is learnt here.

Sources informed Customs Today that the Customs authorities have formed a team comprising Additional Collector Feroz Alam Junejo, Deputy Collector Ali Raza Turrabi and others to interact with other intelligence agencies to stop heroin smuggling and arrest the suspects behind it, sources added.

The sources said that the Customs team has started collecting important call data of the passengers, who were on board of those flights from which the heroin was recovered.

The sources further disclosed that the Customs team is very close to gets some vital information regarding the cases, although the team would share that information with other intelligence agencies after consultation with the authorities concerned of its respective department.

The sources further revealed that the investigation of those cases have become very significant as a part that the federal interior ministry has taken serious note of those cases and also asked the authorities concerned of all intelligence agencies to follow the developments of the said cases and submit a detailed report in this regard.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Patrolling and Reimaging (P&R) Cell of the Customs Preventive during a month was detected and seized three cases of heroin smuggling and all three times the heroin powder was concealed in the flights of national carrier which is certainly an alarming situation.

It may be mentioned here that the Customs authorities have already seized 28 kilogram and 700 grams of heroin powder in all three cases which cost around Rs2800million.
