SHIPPING POSITION: Petroleum products lead imports at Lagos port

LAGOS: SEVEN more vessels laden with various cargoes including Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), arrived at Lagos ports waiting to discharge.

According to yesterday’s shipping position of the Nigerian Ports Authority made available to Vanguard, showed that three other ships waiting, to berth would discharge container-laden goods and bulk gypsum. In the ship data document, about 27 other ships containing petroleum products, food items and other goods were being expected at the ports from between now and end of t he month. NPA explained that other expected ships brought in general cargoes, bulk sugar, buck wheat, petrol, frozen fish and base oil.

Besides the expected arrival of the ships, 21 other ships are currently at the ports discharging wheat, bulk fertiliser, bulk rice, trucks, general cargoes, petrol, sugar, aviation fuel, diesel and crude palm olein. Bulk rice and bagged rice had not been coming into Lagos ports for over a month. Meanwhile petroleum products have continued to dominate imports in the Western zone of the Nigerian Ports Authority, (NPA) as a total of 469,837 metric tons of Premium Motor Spirit, (PMS) were imported in June.
