JAKARTA: The Jambi Customs and Excise Office destroyed as many as 3,080 bottles of illegal local and imported alcohol, more than 8.6 million cigarettes, pornography DVDs, magazines, airsoft guns and food and soft drinks on Thursday.
Office head Priyono Triatmojo said the items entered Jambi without clearance. The goods were impounded throughout 2016.
“As much as Rp 3.1 billion [US$229,000] in state funds have been saved,” said Priyono on Thursday.
Priyono added his office had curbed the circulation of liquor of various brands, both imported and local, which was not equipped with tax stamps from retailers in Jambi city and surrounding areas.
The customs office also burned cigarettes of various brands estimated to be worth about Rp 1.2 billion.
The violations were against the law on excise.
