FBR to simplify tax refund process for non-taxable incomes

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will introduce a new simple form for refund of income tax and withholding tax to the people those have non-taxable income.

This was stated by FBR Strategic Planning Reforms & Statistics and spokesman Dr Muhammad Iqbal while talking to Customs Today. The people those who have non-taxable income like labour, gardener, watchman other lower rank employees of government could claim refunds from the FBR.

The people could claim for refunds of taxes include income tax and withholding tax, which are deducted on prepaid mobile phone cards, electricity bills or on other services, while sales tax is not included.

He added that a simple form will be introduced instead of a complicated one. The board will verify the record of people, who are claiming refunds, from Nadra. He added that the issue of tax deduction on the non-taxable income was raised before a Senate committee where it was also asked to introduce a law in this regard.

However, Member Iqbal assured the committee that FBR could handle this matter at its end and there was no need to make a law.
