Appraisement-East orders to recover taxes from evaders in DP World case

ISLAMABAD: Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement-East Assistant Collector Hina Gul, taking action against the tax evaders in DP World containers case, has ordered to recover evaded amount by attaching their bank accounts and selling properties.

In this regard, Karachi division commissioner and South deputy commissioner have also been provided details of their properties, asking them to take instant action against them to recover national revenue.

The assistant collector has issued notice to all accused persons on remaining reluctant to pay taxes. They were also informed that under sub-section 3 (a) of Section 202 of the Customs Act, 1969 and sub-section 4 of Section 139 of Customs Rules, 2001, their properties are attached with the federal government. The officials also imposed ban on the transfer and sale of the properties without getting NOC from Appraisement East.

Meanwhile, the department also mistakenly issued notices to some persons who were cleared by the Supreme Court Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali in the case. One of them is Abdul Shakoor who was issued a tax notice of Rs 2.9 million.
