FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated contraband items worth Rs 6.87 million during the first two weeks of June 2016 involving customs duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 3,553,714.
Sources told Customs Today that the intelligence teams following directions of Additional Director Azmat Tahira conducted many raids to curb smuggling in the region and confiscated smuggled Indian grey cloth loaded on different vehicles.
The Customs team also impounded these vehicle because these were found involved in transportation of smuggled goods. Owners of the said goods failed to provide any legal documents regarding custody of the items.
The raiding party headed by Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz and consisting Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Muhammad Mansoor, Muhammad Saeed, Muhammad Saleem and others participated in different raids in their respective areas.
Customs team registered separate cases of smuggling against the owners of these goods and forwarded the cases to customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
