LONDON: Car manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V (NYSE:FCAU) will be investigating the accident that killed actor Anton Yelchin, which involved a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee – a model the company recalled in April, according to media reports Yelchin, who played Chekov in the recently rebooted of Star Trek movies, was killed over the weekend when his Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled away and pinned him against the driveway mailbox and fence of his Los Angeles home. The SUV model was one of 1.1 million vehicles recalled worldwide because of a “rollaway” issue – when drivers mistakenly believed they had placed their cars or SUVs in park before exiting, only to have the vehicles roll away. The issue has been linked to 41 injuries, according to various media reports. Fiat Chrysler said in a statement it is “in contact with the authorities and is conducting a thorough investigation.” It also said it was “premature to speculate on the case of this tragedy.” Shares were up 4.8% at $7.09 in recent trade.

The stock increased 4.14% or $0.28 on June 20, hitting $7.04. About 5.62M shares traded hands. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (NYSE:FCAU) has declined 26.34% since November 11, 2015 and is downtrending. It has underperformed by 26.16% the S&P500.
