Customs ASO seizes 9 sacks of illegally imported cigarettes

LAHORE: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) on Tuesday seized nine sacks of non-customs paid cigarettes worth millions of rupees from a goods transport outlet, sources told Customs Today.

Sources said that ASO Inspector Abdul Rehman raided Pir Maki Goods Transportation Station and seized over 2,000 bundles of smuggled cigarettes.  The cigarettes included Benson and other assorted brands were brought into the country illegally.

The source said that the customs authorities have shifted the cigarettes to the state warehouse of Customs House at Multan Road near Shah Noor Studio.

It was added that the customs authorities would be able to disclose the details, value, and brands of the cigarettes after its counting. The sources said that the smuggled cigarettes were to be supplied to Muzafargarh from Lahore.

The sources estimated that the market value of the cigarettes is not less than Rs20,000,00 while exact value will be determined following the counting of the seized cigarettes.

The ASO scout that seized the illegally imported cigarettes was consisting Inspector Abdul Rehamn, Ch Aslam, Aslam Assi, Naveed Mustfa and others.

The sources said that the customs authorities after registering a case have started further investigations to reach the culprits.

Earlier, yesterday, the Anti-Smuggling Organization has seized millions of rupees tyres, tubes, non-customs paid vehicles and other items illegally imported.

The ASO of Customs Preventive seized smuggled tyres loaded on a truck whih was coming from Quetta and arrested the driver.  The value of the seized tyers was determined at Rs5 million.

It was said that driver Muhammad Sadiq, resident of Baluchistan was bringing the tyres. The sources said that tyres were to be supplied to a trader’s godown. It was said that the tyres were to be used for trucks pajeros, and land cruisers.
