Gwadar Customs recovers non-customs paid jewellery, foreign liquor

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate Gwadar recovered a huge quantity of non-customs paid jewellery, foreign origin liquor and Indian Gutkha during different crackdowns.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Customs Gwadar Saeed Akram received information about some smuggling attempts. He formed a raiding team which started checking of vehicles. During the checking, the Customs team recovered Indian white gold from a passenger van. The passengers of the van belonged to the same family and they were going to participate in a function. The customs team started checking of their luggage and found 20 sets of Indian jewellery from their custody which were hidden in the secret parts of their seats. The net weight of the seized jewellery is 20 tolas.

During another crackdown customs team raided a godown located at Hussain Road and recovered 300 bottles of foreign origin liquor. The market value of seized liquor is Rs.5million. The same customs team recovered huge quantity of Indian gutkha. The gutkha were being transported to Karachi from Quetta.

Customs team registered separate cases of smuggling and started further investigations in this regard. It is necessary to mention here that Customs authorities speed up their efforts to curb smuggling attempts in the region as current fiscal year is goind to end soon.
