Utility Stores’ Ramazan package items being sold in market

ISLAMABAD: Most of the discounted items, announced by the government for Ramazan package available only in Utility Stores, are being sold in the open market.

The government announced special discounted rates for 22 essential items. However, after just some days into Ramzan, these items started disappearing from almost every Utility Stores and now all these goods are unavailable.

Meanwhile, some insiders claimed that the managements of Utility Stores have sold the price-reduced items in open market due to huge price differences under the Ramzan Relief Package.

For example, the rate of White Gram at Utility Stores is Rs115/kg while its open market rate is up to Rs200/kg, now if one offers the same item at Rs150/kg, he must be making the huge profit out of it, the insider maintained. On the other hand, senior officials of Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan have denied the claim that management sold the items in the open market.
