ISLAMABAD: Following the special instructions of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Peshawar Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) impounded three non-duty paid vehicles and various smuggled goods worth Rs 30.89 million during third week of June, 2016.
Peshawar Customs Additional Collector Fazl-e-Samad told Customs Today that the anti-smuggling squad impounded three non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 4.370 million from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during different raids.
The assistant collector said that all vehicles were taken into custody under the Customs Act, 1969, adding that the staff of Peshawar regions was working efficiently against the smugglers.
He said that anti-smuggling campaign was going very successfully under the command of Peshawar Customs Collector Qurban Ali. He further informed that the collectorate was about to meet its set target for financial year 2015-16, adding that the it was also making efforts to surpass the customs duty collection target.
The assistant collector said that the ASO seized 18,441 yards of imported cloth valued at Rs 7.014 million and added that the demand of seized fabric was very high in different parts of Punjab and other providences. The smuggling bid was foiled when smugglers were trying to supply the cloth from KPK without payment of customs duty.
The ASO seized 520 kilogram of black tea worth Rs 75,000, he revealed, adding that the tea was smuggled into country through different routes in a huge quantity as its price was comparatively lower than the branded tea.
The Peshawar Customs seized miscellaneous goods including electronics and home appliances. FIRs have been lodged against the smugglers during the said period. Fazal said that smuggling was damaging the national economy badly and it will not be allowed at any cost.
