Customs investigation team fails to submit challan of cell phones’ smuggling case

LAHORE: The investigation team of Multan Customs, despite special directions of the Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling, has could not submit investigation challan of a case of mobile phone smuggling.

Sources told Customs Today that during the last two hearings, the special customs court had ordered the investigative team to submit challan but even on Tuesday they could not submit complete challan of the case.

Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan, the judge of the customs court, has once again directed the investigation and prosecution team of customs to complete challan until the next hearing.

Earlier the Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling had extended the judicial remand of a suspect who was arrested from Shaikh Zayed International Airport, Raheem Yar Khan, while making an attempt to smuggle mobile phones from Dubai to Pakistan.

He was arrested from Raheem Yar Khan airport red handed when he was making an attempt to smuggle mobile phones of assorted brands. A customs team at the airport during checking of his luggage found 130 mobile phones of Samsung, Huawei and Apple brands, besides recovering 141 mobile phones’ batteries.

The Multan Customs registered a case against Muhammad Rizwan under the Pakistan Customs Act, 1969.
