Customs Intelligence impounds truck laden with items worth Rs 10m

KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Quetta has confiscated more than 150 sacks of plastic granule, cement and truck being used for the smuggling worth Rs 10 million during an action.

On credible information, the intelligence staff including Inspector Aslam Ali Khan, Shahid Kazmi and others established check post at exit and entry points of the city where every single vehicle was checked.

The officials intercepted a truck loaded with cement for checking, which led to the recovery of sacks of white plastic granules. The accused wanted to smuggle the plastic granules to other city in guise of cement but the timely action foiled the bid.

The officials confiscated the sacks of plastic granules and cement under the customs laws, besides impounding the truck being used for the transportation of smuggled items. The valued of the seized items and trucks was estimated at around Rs 10 million.

During the action, the Customs Intelligence staff arrested two suspects and registered cases against them for further investigations.

In another action, the Customs Intelligence seized huge quantity of Iranian juices and Indian gutka, besides arresting two accused persons.

The intelligence staff received information that a huge quantity of Iranian juice and Indian gutka has been dumped in Quetta. The said items will be supplied to other cities of country.

Following information, Customs Intelligence deputy director formed a team to seize the smuggled and prohibited items. The team checked vehicles near Panjgor and meanwhile, it intercepted a container.

The officials checked the container and recovered more than 100 cartons of juice and 150 cartons of gutka. All the items along with container were seized, besides arresting two accused persons.

Officials of the intelligence said that anti-smuggling operation will be continued in order to save the national economy and public from prohibited items.
