BROWNSVILLE: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville & Matamoros International Bridge seized a load of alleged cocaine hidden within a brown 1995 Chevrolet Astro van.
“Our CBP officers have done an excellent job as they continue to remain vigilant to keep narcotics from entering our country,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry.
The seizure took place on June 29, at the Brownsville & Matamoros International Bridge when CBP officers referred a 58-year-old male Mexican citizen driving a brown 1995 Chevrolet Astro van for a secondary examination. Upon inspection of the vehicle and with the help of non-intrusive imaging system (NII), CBP officers discovered 10 packages of alleged cocaine weighing a total of 24.4 pounds. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $188,020.
CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle, and turned the driver over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
