Customs Intelligence impounds container, carpets worth Rs 3.4m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Khushab has seized 278 bundles of non-duty paid imported handmade used carpets along with container worth Rs 3.409 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 1 million.

Following credible information, Superintendent Maher Muhammad Rafique formed a raiding team comprising Intelligence Officer Chaudhary Saeed Hayat, Asghar Mehdi Naqvi, Sepoys Masood Iqbal, Muhammad Ashraf, Musadiq Ahmed, Muzamil Hussain and Muhammad Anwar to foil the smuggling bid.

The team intercepted a trailers bearing Registration No JT- 9187 on Jehlum River Bridge Sargodha Road, Khushab and asked the driver named Muhammad Abdullah son of Saleh Muhammad to produce documents regarding import of items. The drivers failed to provide any documents; therefore, the officials impounded the vehicle and goods under the customs laws.

During interrogation, driver Muhammad Abdullah revealed that Muhammad Zeshan Afzal is owner of these items. The Customs Intelligence has sent the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
