Over 1.6m pensioners suffer amid banks’ IT breakdown

KARACHI: Over 1.6 million pensioners faced problem as IT system of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and United Bank Limited remained non-functional for hours.

Long queues were witnessed at designated branches of these branches in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Lahore, Peshawar and many cities of the country.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar directed the State Bank of Pakistan to ensure speedy disbursement of money to the pensioners. The SBP official said that branches of NBP have started giving pensions to the pensioners in different cities of the country.

An official of NBP said that the bank has started disbursement of money to pensioners and even arranged Iftar for them. He said NBP branches meant for disbursement of pension would remain open till the last pensioner was not paid.
