Gwadar Customs seizes huge quantity of foreign liquor

KARACHI: Customs collectorate Gwadar has recovered a huge quantity of foreign origin liquor during a crackdown and arrested two suspects who were involved in transportation of smuggled goods. During another operation, the customs team recovered smuggled tea.

According to details, Collector Gwadar Saeed Akram received secret information that some smugglers are planning to smuggle a huge quantity of foreign origin liquor through a ferry by sea route. He summoned deputy collector and directed him to use all available resources to foil these attempts.

Deputy collector constituted a team which intercepted a ferry in open sea. The smugglers tried to run away but after chasing it the customs team succeeded to surround the ferry. During checking, customs team recovered 500 bottles of foreign origin liquor and arrested two smugglers who were on board the ferry. It is necessary to mention here that eleven active members of same gang are also in police custody nowadays. The market value of seized foreign liquor is Rs1.8 million.

During another operation Collector Gwadar team recovered huge quantity of smuggled tea which were hidden in a godown. Sources said that customs team raided a godown which is located near Noori adda and recovered 80 sacks of smuggled tea. Customs team asked the chowkidar of the godown about the owneship of tea but he failed to answer any question in this regard.

Customs team arrested the chowkidar of the godown and regsitered a case of smuggling. The market value of seized tea is Rs5 million. The customs team started investigations. It is necessary to mention here that customs authorities are using all available resources to curb smuggling attempts and due to strict measures, attempts of smuggling are decreasing day by day.
