DHAKA: Bangladesh’s average inflation rate remained below 6 percent in the financial year ending in June, fulfilling the target set in the last national budget. In 2015-16 fiscal, the overall inflation dropped to 5.92 percent compared to 6.35 the previous year, according to latest Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data.
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kmala released the data after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday. While presenting the FY 2015-16 budget last year, Finance Minister AMA Muhith had hoped to keep the average inflation rate below 6 percent, while wishing to bring it down to 5.8 percent at the end.
