Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir to represent Pakistan in UNCTAD 14 in Kenya

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir will represent Pakistan in the upcoming 14th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD 14) in Nairobi, Kenya. UNCTAD-14 is scheduled to be held from July 17 to 22.

Sources told Customs Today that UNCTAD 14 would bring together heads of state and government, ministers and other prominent players from the business world, civil society and academia to tackle global trade and economic development issues.

The quadrennial conference will also be a unique opportunity to consider the most appropriate means of delivering on the post-2015 development agenda. It will also decide on UNCTAD’s programme of work.

Moreover, the source said that theme of the UNCTAD would be from decisions to actions and conference would feature ministerial debates, high-level round tables, thematic events, a World Investment Forum, a Global Commodities Forum, a Youth Forum and a Civil Society Forum, among other events.

“To make Pakistan’s effective representation in the conference, Ministry of Commerce is making all out efforts to attract more and more foreign businessmen along with their investments by providing the best possible information to them” the source added.

The source observed that on the first day of the conference before the opening ceremony of the conference fourteenth ministerial meeting of the Group of 77 and China would be held with an objective of fostering partnerships between investment promotion agencies and outward investment agencies.

This meeting will provide Minister for Commerce with an opportunity to interact with participating ministers as well as to convey them Pakistan’s stance about being the best investment destination.
