Customs Court adjourns hearing of 28 cases related to customs, tax due to boycott of lawyers

KARACHI: The Customs Court on Thursday postponed the hearing of 28 cases related to customs and income tax due to boycott of lawyers on the call of Sindh Bar Council, Sindh High Court Bar Association, Karachi Bar Association and Malir Bar Association against the kidnapping of senior lawyer Ibrahim Abro who was allegedly kidnapped on Wednesday

These cases were fixed before the court, however, during the hearing, the court was informed that the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Sindh Bar Council, Karachi Bar Association, Malir Bar Association appealed the lawyer community to boycott the hearing and requested the lawyers not to appear in the courts. Therefore, the court discharged the hearing of all cases.

According to the cause list, nine out of 28 cases were fixed for formal hearing of accused namely Faisal Ilahi & others, Waqas Ahmed & others, Ovais Siddique & others, Arif Humayun & others, Murad Baksh & others , Mir Ahmed & others, Asad Khan & others, Vikey Kumar, Javaid & others.

17 out of overall 28, cases were fixed for prosecution evidences against accused Muhammad Irfan & others, Aamir & others, Syed Agha Jan & others, Shakeel Ahmed & others, Rao Khalid Qamer & others, Hasan Ullah, Muhammad Ashraf, Malik Abdul Qayyum, Shakeel Ahmed Siddiqui, Muhammad Rafiq, Vikey Kumar &others, Muhammad Abdullah Paracha & others, Muhammad Riaz &others and Maqsood Alam & others.

Remaining two cases were fixed for confirmation of bails of accused namely Abdul Hafeez & others, Mst Huma Nadeem & others.
