Customs Intelligence impounds Mark-X imported on fake document from Sabzazar

LAHORE: The car cell of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Lahore on Friday seized Mark-X registered with Excise and Taxation Department Karachi despite the fact that the car was non-customs paid.

Official sources said that the car cell, on the instructions of Director Saud Imran Ahmed, undertook picket in Sabzazar and intercepted a Mark-X car near Liaqat Chowk.

The sources said that upon search it was revealed that that car was registered on fake import document yet was registered by Excise and Taxation Department, Karachi.

It was reported that the car owner Humayun, a resident of Vehari, purchased the Mark-X 2006 for Rs 2,700,000 from a dealer.

The Car Cell incharge Muratab Mushtaq under the supervision of Additional Director Usman Bajwa impounded the vehicle along with car cell team comprising Aftab, Salim Hashmi, Asif Gujjar and Arshad Bhatti.

The car cell for further confirmation has written a letter to Karachi port authorities which confirmed that the car was illegally imported in the country and has no record.

The car cell incharge told Customs Today that the directorate has initiated investigations to reach the elements involved in the illegal business.

He said that on the instruction of Director Saud Imran Ahmad crackdowns against the smuggled vehicles has been intensified and more such vehicles are likely to be seized by the directorate.

Earlier on Wednesday the car cell impounded a Mark-X car from Johar Town. The vehicle was seized on information as team raided and intercepted the car in Q block.

The car cell team demanded documents from the driver of the car but he failed to produce anything, the source said adding that being fully satisfied that the driver was not holding any document and that the vehicle was non customs paid being played on fake plate no AQX 444 finally seized the car.
