WASHINGTON: The figures for 2015, released by the Central Statistics Office, show that 32,000 tonnes worth of break bulk and other goods were forwarded from the port last year.
This was an increase of 2,000 tons on what was shipped from the Kerry port in 2014, and the fifth consecutive rise since 2010. The majority of tonnage that left the port (22,000 tonnes) was sent to ports in non-European countries. The remainder went to European ports, with the exclusion of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The total weight of goods forwarded in Ireland in 2015 fell by over one million tons, but the 51 million tons of goods handled nationally was an increase of almost seven per cent from 2014, driven by a significant increase in goods received.
