Customs Intelligence impounds non-customs paid cloth, cosmetics, cigarettes

LAHORE: The Customs Investigation and Intelligence has seized smuggled cloth and cosmetics worth millions of rupees from a goods transport stand.

Sources told Customs Today that anti-smuggling cell of the Customs Investigation and Intelligence raided the stand and seized cosmetics creams, cigarettes and miscellaneous items worth Rs 3.3 million.

The sources said that illegally imported medicines and cigarettes were loaded on a pick-up for onward transportation to Multan.

They said that the cigarettes and cloths were not notified items and were simply seized and no arrest was made.  The sources added that case has been registered and investigations are under way in this regard. Sources added said that most of the medicines were of foreign origin.

The sources said that in a separate raid, the anti-smuggling team has seized suiting cloth from a truck worth Rs 2 million.  It was added that on information the customs authorities intercepted a truck loaded with cloth made in abroad.

The customs authorities registering a case has initiated further investigation to reach to the elements involved in the illegal business. The customs authorities said that the directorate has initiated aggressive campaign in order to overcome the evil of smuggling.
