WASHINGTON: Albany its upstate New York’s busiest port, and they’d like to keep it that way. U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer on Monday morning joined local officials at the Port of Albany to push for nearly $18 million in federal grants. The money would fund improvements that would allow the port to handle larger cargo shipments.
The wharf on which Schumer spoke was lined with power generating equipment from General Electric Co.’s plant in Schenectady, awaiting shipment overseas.
