SHC halts proceedings due to lawyers strike

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday postponed hearing of 12 cases related to customs and income tax due to the boycott of lawyers on the call given by Pakistan Bar Council, Sindh High Court Bar Association, Sindh Bar Council, Karachi Bar Association and Malir Bar Association against the kidnapping of Barrister Owais Ali Shah Advocate, son of Chief Justice Sindh High Court ( SHC ).

The cases were fixed before the several benches; however, before starting of hearing the judges of the SHC were informed that the lawyers bodies had announced full day strike against abduction of the Owais Ali Shah and the judges were requested to discharge the cases.

The courts postponed the hearing of more than 12 cases related to custom and income tax without any proceedings.

On the other hand, according to the ISPR, security forces have recovered kidnapped Owais Ali Shah Advocate in a raid in Tank. The barrister was kidnapped by the activists of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan from Agha Super Market Defence, Karachi on June 20, 2016.

After the safe recovery of Owais Ali Shah, litigants had demanded the lawyers community to withdraw the strikes from, however, the lawyers continued the boycott, causing difficulties for the litigants.

According to the roster, the cases which were fixed before a two-member bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro and justice Khadim Hussain M Sheikh, were filed by M / S Tughlac Paper Mills, Shakeel and Co,Bionic Advertisement and Ors, M / S Al – Hamd Printers, M / S Go-Aish, M / S Pak Armoring Pvt Ltd, Customs & Sales Tax Practioners Association and others.
