Collectorate Intelligence Unit detects tax evasion of millions of rupees at Port Qasim

KARACHI: The Collectorate Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Customs Collectorate of Port Muhammad Bin Qasim has detected tax evasion of millions of rupees through mis-declaration and under-invoicing of import documents.

Sources informed Customs Today that the CIU halted several consignments of multi-merchandisers last month and marked for thorough examination at Qasim International Containers’ Terminal (QICT).

The sources further informed that the authorities have found that the importers were allegedly involved in tax evasion of millions of rupees by using wrong PCT and valuation ruling during the import of those consignments.

Responding to a query, the sources further revealed that the process of scrutinization of the available import data is still continue and the authorities concerned of the collectorate would soon complete the entire operation in this regard.

Replying to another query, the sources further said that the imported consignments having different multiple items including toileteers, cosmetics, plastic dana and cloth.

The sources further said that the authorities concerned of CIU would also brief the Collector of Customs Port Muhammad Bin Qasim Mukarram Jah Ansari after completing the entire exercise.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Collector Customs Port Muhammad Bin Qasim Mukarram Jah Ansari has already directed the authorities concerned of the collectorate to keep vigilant eye of the consignments which produce any doubts and also asked the examination staff to keep find out the anomalies in the imported consignments if needed.
