3,732 mobiles, 25.68kg heroin seized at BB airport since Jan

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Model Customs Collectorate has started an intensive anti-smuggling campaign at Benazir Bhutto International Airport under the leadership Collector Dr Arslan Subuctageen.

The Collectorate has foiled seven bids of smuggling mobiles since January 2016 and recovered about 3,732 mobiles worth Rs 27.28 million. The officials of the same Collectorate have also thwarted four attempts of smuggling foreign currency valuing Rs 15.23 million, besides seizing 25.68kg heroin worth Rs 210.8 million in other raids at the airport.

The Customs officials foiled the second major bid of smuggling during the current bid at Benazir Bhutto International Airport and seized more than 1,600 smartphones and 10,700 memory cards on Sunday. The officials also recovered 20kg heroin from a British national on 17th July 2016.

Sources said that the smuggling of cell phones from the said airport has almost been totally eliminated due to repeated seizures of the phones during the ongoing year.
