8,545 enterprises open in Q1

HELSINKI: There were 8,545 enterprise openings in the first quarter of 2016, according to Statistics Finland. Enterprise openings accounted for 2.3 per cent of the total stock of enterprises. Examined by industry, enterprise openings were most numerous in professional, scientific and technical activities, where they numbered 1,430, or 16.7 per cent of all enterprise openings in the first quarter. In trade, enterprise openings numbered 1,312 (15.4%) and in construction 1,064 (12.5%).

Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Uusimaa. In the fourth quarter of 2015, there were 9,019 enterprise closures. Examined by industry, enterprise closures were most numerous in trade, the data show.

Enterprise closures accounted for 2.4 per cent of the total stock of enterprises. Examined by region, the number of enterprise closures was highest in Uusimaa. Examined by sub-regional unit, in the first quarter of 2016, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (3,065), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (629), Turku (480), Oulu (299), Lahti (270) and Jyväskylä (268). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Helsinki (2,7%) and Jyväskylä (2.7%) sub-regional units.

Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise openings were recorded in the first quarter of 2016 in Helsinki (1,670), followed by Espoo (482), Tampere (365), Vantaa (316) and Turku (293). Examined by legal form, enterprise openings of the form of natural person numbered 4,132 and those of the form of limited company 3,752.
