YORK: York County’s unemployment rate slightly increased between May and June, according to the Nebraska Department of Labor. The unemployment rate in June was 3.1 percent, compared to 2.6 percent in May.
May’s rate, however, was consistent with the rate a year ago, when it was 3.2 percent. According to the figures from the department of labor, there were 7,446 people employed in the county in June, of a labor force estimated to be 7,683. That means 237 people were considered to be unemployed.
As a state, the unemployment rate remained at 3 percent, which was the same as the May rate and has been unchanged since June of 2015. “Nonfarm employment remains above one million filled jobs,” said Commissioner of Labor John H. Albin. “Employment levels in leisure and hospitality and financial activity reached new highs in June.”
Private industries with the most growth year over year were leisure and hospitality, education and health services, and professional and business services. Month to month, the largest gains were seen in leisure and hospitality, construction, and professional and business services. The national rate for June was 4.9 percent.
