Collector Preventive Huda, DG Transit Trade Ghani agree to enhance security at Pak-Afghan border

KARACHI: Collector Customs Collectorate Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda held a meeting with the Director General of the Directorate of Transit Trade Jawed Ghani at his office. The Director Transit Trade Wajid Hussain was also present in the meeting.

During the meeting, issues pertaining to the Afghan transit trade, border security and tracking performance were discussed.

Collector Preventive SM Tariq Huda briefed the security deployment of Customs authorities on the route of Afghan Transit Trade, adding that the Customs authorities are also keeping a vigilant eye on retrograded cargo.

The Collector Preventive further said that due to the strict security at check-posts and border, the pilferage/theft of Afghan Transit Trade cargo has been decreased to a large extent.

The Director General of Directorate General of Transit Trade Jawed Ghani has said that the Directorate wants active support of Customs Preventive authorities concerned in order to boost the security and vigilance on NATO/ISAF containers.

During the meeting, the Customs authorities have also stressed upon to improve the tracking system which is being installed at Afghan Transit Trade route.

The sources further informed Customs Today that the gate security was also being reviewed during the meeting adding that the Customs authorities have also decided to beef up the security at gates and retrograde Afghan Transit Trade containers’ route.

The sources further informed this scribe that the Pakistan Customs with the consultation of Afghan Customs authorities would evolve a mechanism in order to deploy combined Customs officials at the gates, so that the security at the Pak-Afghan border would be improved.
