Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes machinery on mis-declaration

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized a consignment of old and used machinery worth Rs 4.022 million along with container valued at Rs 300,000 following the charges of short-payment of duty/taxes.

Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Riaz Hussain received information regarding the clearance of a consignment through mis-declaration on which he formed a team to confiscate the consignment.

The team intercepted the trailer bearing Registration No. TLP-618 loaded with container No MSCU-9980303 near Pansra Jhang Road, Faisalabad and recovered old and used compressor, air tyres, electric motors, gear motor, LCD monitor, industrials electric switch, S.S bakery gas dryer and multi gear bicycle.

The driver of trailer named Abdul Hamid was asked to produce the documents regarding the clearance of the consignment. He showed the documents in which a bill of entry No, KPPI-HC-7425 and also a receipt issued by Niazi Friend Goods Transport Company, Karachi. Consignee of the consignment was mentioned as M.A Trading.

The Customs Intelligence found some discrepancies in goods declaration made by importer, Muhammad Akram son of Rasheed. It was also observed that duty/taxes amounting to Rs 333,633 were evaded on the consignment.

Therefore, the Customs Intelligence seized the consignment under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969 for violation f Section 18, 32,(1) and (2), of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Section 156(1)14,90 ibid.

The Customs Intelligence team comprising Deputy Director Riaz Hussain, Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir, Mihammad Saleem, Bashir Hussain and others participated in the raid.
