Faialabad AFU seizes 60 smuggled mobile phones, accessories

FAISALABAD: The Customs Collectorate Faisalabad Air Freight Unit (AFU) has seized more than 60 smuggled cellular phones and cell phone accessories without packing at the Faisalabad International Airportr.

According to sources, the AFU under the supervision of Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan received information that a huge quantity of foreign origin mobile phones are being smuggled from Dubai via Flydubai flight no. FZ- 343. On the basis of information the customs staff directed to be vigilant and active to search the flight passengers. The AFU staff intercepted a  passenger who was identified as Muhammad Naeem son of Muhammad Jamil Tahir who is a resident of 138 Muhammad Ali Road Icchra Lahore and checked the invoices of the cellular phones he was carrying. During the checking, it was revealed that the passenger was carrying these cellular phones without having any valid purchase receipt or invoices.

Air Freight Unit team seized cell phones and accessories of various brands such as iPhones, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung S3, S4 and Motorolla under section 2(s), read with SRO 566(1)/2005 section 16, 18, 139, 157(1), and 178 of the Customs Act 1969 and PTA rules and procedure.

The value of these cellular phones and Accessories was estimated at Rs2,80,000 involving customs duty and taxes of Rs112685, sources concluded as saying.
