Customs Intelligence recovers smuggled items worth Rs 6.88m in July

FAISALABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Faisalabad has seized smuggled goods worth Rs 6.88 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 3.90 million in different anti-smuggling activities during the month of July-2016.

According to details, Customs intelligence team, following the directions of Additional Director Azmat Tahira, conducted various raids to foil smuggling attempts in the region. However, seven cases of smuggling were registered against suspects. The Customs authorities also impounded a non-duty paid vehicle worth Rs 400,000 being used for transportation of smuggled goods.

The Customs Intelligence conducted operations against smuggled goods and vehicles in different areas of its jurisdiction, including Sargodha, Khushab and Faisalabad.  Field Investigation Unit Khushab registered two cases of smuggling during the month of July.

The customs team seized Indian origin grey fabrics worth Rs 900,000, involving customs duty and taxes amounting to Rs465,552, foreign origin used Generator 80, KVA diesel worth Rs600,000 involving customs duty and taxes worth Rs284,800.

The customs teams made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1969, after the owners failed to produce any document showing the legal import of the items.

The team which conducted these anti smuggling operations includes Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officers Mansoor Nasir, Muhammad Saleem, Muhammad Naseer, and others.

It is necessary to mention here that all these cases were forwarded to Customs Adjudication branch for further proceedings.
