Peshawar Customs collects Rs 953.4m in July

PESHAWAR: The Model Customs Collectorate collected Rs 953.47 million under the head of different duty/taxes during July 2016-17 as compared to Rs 1,257.57 during corresponding period of the year 2015-16.

As per statistics, the department collected Rs 334.18 million in wake of customs duty against Rs 468.93 million last year, observing a shortfall of Rs 134.75 million.

In wake of sale tax, it collected Rs 262.2 million against 325.67 million, facing shortfall of Rs 63.47 million. It generated Rs 93.3 million as sale tax against Rs 164.88 million collected during July 2015, witnessing a shortfall of Rs 71.58 million.

Under the head of sale tax value addition on commercial importer, the collectorate collected Rs 39.76 million against the previous collection of Rs 45.07 million showing shortfall Rs 5.31 million.

It collected Rs 8.28 million federal excise duty on imports against Rs 16.57 million of July 2015 with shortfall of Rs 8.29 million.

The Peshawar Customs collected Rs 215.75 million as withholding tax against Rs 236.75 million of July 2015 with total shortfall of Rs 21 million.

The performance of the previous year of the collectorate was much satisfactory however in first months of the new financial year, the revenue collection remains slow due to decline in the process of export and import.
