Customs AFU collects Rs 447m in July

ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate’s Air Freight Unit (AFU) collected Rs 447 million in wake of customs duty, sales tax and withholding tax during July of current fiscal year 2016-17.

Islamabad AFU Additional Collector Khawaja Naeem said that the department, following the instructions of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), collected satisfactory amount of duty taxes during the said period.

The leadership of FBR Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan and Islamabad Customs Collector Dr Arslan Subuctageen helped the officials achieve reasonable revenue.

He said that the AFU collected Rs137 million as customs duty, Rs 190 million in the wake of sales tax and Rs 120 million under the head of withholding tax during July.

He said that collection of taxes except federal excise duty remained satisfactory during July 2016-17, adding that the AFU collected sales tax, customs duty and withholding tax as per the desires of the FBR.

The Islamabad AFU’s different sections, including accompanied baggage, unaccompanied baggage, airport trafficking side collected handsome amount of revenue.

Tax collection target given to AFU was big during last year but the department achieved it successfully, he said, adding, “We are making efforts to follow suit”.
