Gwadar Customs foils attempts to smuggle alcohol, narcotics

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate Gwadar has foiled attempts to smuggle a huge quantity of wine and narcotics and arrested four suspects.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Gwadar Saeed Akram received secret information that some people were trying to smuggle a huge quantity of wine through open sea route of Jeewani. He immediately constituted a anti-smuggling team. The team consisting of Junaid Iqbal, Safdar Khan and others intercepted a ferry in open sea and recovered 300 bottles of wines. The Customs team seized all the bottles and arrested two persons.

During another crackdown in open sea area customs team during their routine checking in Gwadar city recovered huge quantity of narcotics. Sources said that Gwadar Customs Collector Saeed Akram received information about smuggling bids. He formed a team comprising Inspector Safdarullah, Imran Lutf and other sepoys. The team established various check points at main entry and exit point of Gwadar city and starting checking of vehicles. During checking of a bus customs team recovered 100 kilograms of fine quality hashish, and one kilograms of heroin.

Sources said that customs team seized all the narcotics and arrested two persons who were on board on the bus. The market value of seized narcotics is Rs20 million. Customs teams after registering a case started interrogations from arrested accused persons.
