LAHORE: The duty judge of the Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved physical remand of an accused who was arrested by the customs authorities from Allama Iqbal International airport while making an attempt to smuggle cell phones from China to Lahore.
The Customs Investigation and Prosecution team produced the accused Naveed Bhatti before the court and asked for physical remand of five days to investigate him regarding smuggling and other persons involved in his attempt of smuggling.
The special court on request of customs handed over the accused to investigation team for three days for investigation.
Earlier Naveed Bhatti was arrested by the Customs Preventive when they seized 170 android mobile phones of assorted types from his luggage at Lahore airport. As per the sources, on suspicion, the customs authorities intercepted the accused Naveed Bhatti while he was using green channel and asked him that if he had anything illegal.
The mobile phones were hidden in bottles of water which the passenger claimed that he brought that water from Saudi Arabia, it was added. The sources said that the total value of the mobile phones has been estimated at Rs.5 million. Customs authorities confiscating the mobiles has registered as case and started further investigation.
