WASHINGTON: Romania’s imports recorded a 2.7% growth rate in June compared to the same month in 2015, to EUR 5.63 billion, according to data from the National Statistics Institute. Meanwhile, the exports went up 3.7% year-on-year in June, thus outpacing the imports’ growth rate. The exports totaled EUR 4.94 billion. The trade deficit thus amounted to EUR 695.8 million.

However, in the first half of the year, the exports increased by 4.2% compared to the same period in 2015, to EUR 28.18 billion, while the imports went up 7.7% to EUR 32.65 billion. The trade deficit was EUR 4.46 billion in this period, EUR 1.17 billion higher than the one registered between January and June 2015. Romania registered a trade deficit of EUR 8.4 billion in 2015, up by 38% compared to the previous year, as the country’s imports went up almost twice faster than the exports.
