Gujranwala Customs Intelligence impounds Toyota Hilux

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation team impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Hilux Surf worth Rs 1.2 million during an action on GT Road.

Reportedly, Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Zainab Mehmood visited Gujranwala division and held meetings with the officials. She also directed Superintendent Rauf Farooqi to take stern actions against the smuggled goods and vehicles under the anti-smuggling campaign launched by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Following instructions, Customs Intelligence Superintendent Rauf Farooqi ordered Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Anwar to constitute a team for checking of vehicles on GT Road in order to impound the smuggled vehicles.

However, the deputy superintendent and his team comprising Intelligence Officer Saad Iqbal, Constables Asad Raza, Mubashir, Arslan and others started checking of vehicles when it intercepted a car, Toyota Hilux bearing Registration No DF-8196 and asked driver named Tanveer to show documents regarding legal import of the vehicles but he could not produce the same.

The team impounded the vehicle worth Rs 1.2 million under the customs laws and shifted to the compound of Customs Intelligence and Investigation. The team also registered a case under the Customs Act, 1969 against the accused person, while the driver was released after proper interrogation.
