ATHENS: From the start of next year, property owners in Greece will have to provide more information about land parcels, which have been exempted from the ENFIA property tax this year, a Finance Ministry official has told Kathimerini.
The electronic system for registering plots of land will open after the last installment of this year’s ENFIA tax has been paid. This means owners will have to submit more details about their land holdings on the E9 forms that contain all taxpayers’ property details.
The official said that new columns will be added to the E9 forms so property owners can enter extra details, such as whether they have the right to build on the land, so the value of the plot can be calculated by tax authorities.
The government decided to not include undeveloped parcels of land in its ENFIA tax calculations this year after seeing that it would lead to a substantial rise in the amount of tax it would have to collect. Greece’s lenders were not pleased by this but the government assured them that all property will be taxed from next year.
Kathimerini understands that the Finance Ministry has told the institutions that the new system for calculating the ENFIA tax, including the plots of land, will be ready by the end of March.
