Customs Court approves bail of suspect involved in duty, tax evasion

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted bail to Rana Muhammad Sadiq, who is involved in a case of tax and duty evasion by misusing terms and conditions of SRO (1) / 2009 dated June 13, 2009.

During the hearing counsel for the accused Rana Muhammad Sadiq submitted that applicant / accused is innocent and has been falsely implicated in this case, therefore, the court may approve his bail. However, the counsel for the department argued that the prosecution has provided all evidences against accused person, therefore, the court may reject the bail application.

According to the prosecution, case was registered by customs authorities evasion of duty and taxes by mis-using terms and conditions of SRO 492 (1) / 2009 dated 13/06/2009 recordable on illegally disposed of goods Rs30,811,000/.
