Customs impounds offending vehicle, dry fruit worth Rs 1.875m

ISLAMABAD: The anti-smuggling squad of the Customs Collectorate impounded an offending Mazda truck and a huge quantity of dry fruit (almond and pistachio) worth Rs 1.875 million.

Deputy Collector Preventive Shahid Jan told Customs Today that the customs staff is using all available resources to curb smuggling in the region. He said that the FBR has also instructed the officials to start  campaign against offending vehicles according to Customs laws.

He said that on information of Customs Collectorate,  anti-smuggling team intercepted a Mazda truck at Kak pull (entry point of Islamabad), the truck was coming from Peshawar, the squad ask the driver of the truck to provide relevant document regarding loaded dry fruit (almond and pistachio) but he failed to satisfy the squad.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that after their failure customs team impounded the vehicle along with dry fruits.

He said that Customs team registered a case of smuggling against accused persons and started investigations. He said that offending vehicle is also booked to facilitate the smuggling activity.

The squad who conducted the operation includes Superintendent Nasir Barlas and Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel and others.
