FTO hears case filed by M/s Ashraf Sugar Mills against LTU

LAHORE: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has adjourned the hearing of two cases filed by M/s Ashraf Sugar Mills Limited against Large Taxpayer Lahore (LTU) until the next hearing.

According to the details, Advisor to Federal Tax Ombudsman Tariq Yousaf heard the case in which the counsel for the complainant Faisal Naseer represented M/s Ashrif Surgar Mills Limited. The advocate argued that the Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) remained fail to make payment of tax refund claims to the company during the last three years.

The counsel added that the field formation collected excessive tax from taxpayers during last three years. The petitioners Asif Hussain Bukhari, M/s Ashraf Sugar Mills Limited approached the commissioner concerned in LTU many times for refunds but no action was taken in this regard by the Large Taxpayer Unit.

Eventually, the appellants decided to approach Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) to direct the LTU Lahore to clear the pending refund claims as early as possible, the counsel argued, adding that the Lahore LTU should clear the refunds at the end of fiscal year but it did not do the same.

On the other side, counsel for Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) Lahore argued that the LTU has ready to settle the case after assessment. After hearing the arguments from both sides the Adviser of Federal Tax Ombudsman Tariq Yousaf adjourned the cases of petitioners Asif Hussain Bukhari, M/s Ashraf Sugar Mills Limited Uper Mall Lahore till next date for further hearing and directed the parties to appear on said date.
