Custom Court accepts final challan against suspects in tax evasion case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has accepted final challan and fixed the hearing for charges framed against suspects in a duty and taxes evasion case amounting to Rs 10,970,013/.

Earlier, during the hearing, investigation officer Rasheed Alam submitted the final challan in which he informed the court that suspects, Nafees-ur-Rahman Barry, proprietor of M/s Sabiha Anees Trading Enterprises in collaboration with Riaz Haider proprietor of M/s RH Enterprises, clearing agent and their others, unlawfully and illegally claimed reduced rate of 10 percent sales tax under 8th schedule S# 9 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 on import of cheese and defrauded the national exchequer to the tune of Rs 10,970,013/-.

According to the investigation officer, case was registered by complainant Shahid Khan, intelligence officer, Directorate General, Intelligence & Investigation – FBR  (Customs Enforcement ) under section 32  (1) & (2), 32A, 79 (1) 168 of the Customs Act 1969 punishable section 156 (1) (14) (14 A) (82) of the Customs Act 1969 and section 148 (1) of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. In final challah, complainant Shahid Khan name was also mentioned as prosecution witness.

It needs to be mentioned here that all above accused persons are on bail. Copies of the final challan are already supplied and on next date of hearing court will charge frame against the above accused persons.
