SIALKOT: The Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) recorded moving of 690,440 tone cargo during July 15, 2016 up to August 15, 2016.
The port handled 490,000 tone imported items and 200,440 tone exported items. It handled 478,346 tone cargo last year during said period. At least 270,000 tone was imported leather and 220,000 imported raw materials to use soccer balls, surgical Instruments etc.
The 130,000 tone exported Sports good, Leather Garments, Gloves and other sports and leather industries related items whereas 140,000 tone exported Surgical Instruments and Cutlery from Sialkot Dry Port Trust. The Model Customs Collectorate cleared consignments of said imported and exported items and the export item will be sent to concerned import parties by sea from Karachi and these items will be loaded on concerned shipping companies by the Customs Officials who perform duty on SDPT.
The imported items handed over to concern importers after receiving import duty and other charges as per customs law. Deputy Collector Waheed Anwar Abro told Customs Today that the leather and raw material is increasing because this need of exporters to ready their export items. He said that the most exporters import material from abroad and they use imported material in their export items. He said that the export from Sialkot is not on decline rather it is increasing day by day whereas the Small Medium Enterprises (SME’s) exporters are improving their export. The exporters of SME’s purchase leather and raw material for common importers who import said items independently and sale in the market. Customs Inspector Sheikh Ikram said that the import and export at SDPT is not decreasing rather it is increasing and it is good achievement of Customs Department.
