Irish man held with tobacco,vodka and cigarettes worth €18,000

DUBLIN: More than €18,000 worth of contraband cigarettes, tobacco and vodka has been seized by Revenue officers in Dublin.

They also seized a car during the search of a number of premises in Dublin today. Officers, aided by Gardaí in an intelligence led operation, recovered 23,420 contraband cigarettes including ‘Mayfair’, ‘Dorchester’, ‘Marlboro Gold’, ‘MG’, ‘Winston’, ‘Route 66’, ‘Jim’ and ‘821’ brands.

Also, up to 6.6kgs of illegal tobacco – with brands including ‘Eastenders’, ‘Samson’, ‘Amber Leaf’ and ‘Flandria’ – was taken, along with 68 bottles of vodka suspected to be counterfeit.

They are estimated to cost more than €18,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of around €14,000.
