Germany increases gas imports by 11.7%

BERLIN: Germany increased gas imports from Russia by 11.7% to 2 bln cubic meters in the first half of August compared to the same period last year, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller told journalist on Wednesday, TASS reports.

“August is traditionally the season of repair works on the pipelines and reduction of demand for gas. But our partners in Europe continue to increase purchases of Russian gas. For example, Germany in the first half of August shows increase of gas imports from Russia by 11.7% compared to the previous year, and by 22.1% in comparison with July deliveries. Deliveries for two weeks amounted to almost 2 bln cubic meters,” he said.

Miller said earlier that from January 1 to August 15, Gazprom increased gas supplies to Europe by 10.4% compared to the same period last year, in volume terms – increase of 9.9 bln cubic meters. He noted that the demand for Russian gas increased in Austria (16.8%), Greece (66.2%), Poland (21.5%). Gazprom export is steadily growing in France – 29.3%, in the UK – by 62.1%, the Netherlands – 95.6%, in Denmark – by 137.3% – the country – consumers of gas through the gas pipeline Nord stream – 2.

In 2016, Gazprom might increase exports of gas to Europe by 6.6% to 170 bln cubic meters – the figure at least will be between 166-170 bln cubic meters, Miller said earlier. Gazprom has increased its gas exports in 2015 to the CIS countries by 8% compared with the previous year – up to 159.4 bln cubic meters.
