Customs Appellate Tribunal reserves verdict in six cases

ISLAMABAD: On the second consecutive day of hearing at the Customs Appellate Tribunal (headquarters), its Chairman Justice (r) Manzoor Hussain reserved decision in six cases on Thursday.

A single bench comprising Chairman Justice (r) Manzoor Hussain heard the cases and reserved the decisions after hearing arguments from both sides. In the meantime, the bench also adjourned the hearing of one case out of total seven which were heard by the single bench.

Out of these seven, four cases have been filed by M/s Sana Enterprises, and M/s Makkays, M/s Crystal Traders and M/s Asian Trading & Services had filed one case each.

Chairman Manzoor Hussain reserved judgment on four cases filed by M/s Sana Enterprises, M/s Makkays, and M/s Crystal Traders. He adjourned hearing of case filed by M/s Asian Trading & Services.

Model Collectorate of Customs (MCC), Islamabad had been made respondent in all cases. It is pertinent to mention that these cases are old ones which were filed in 2015.

As the hearing resume on the day, M/s Sana Enterprises submitted that their imported items were seized by the customs authorities and claimed that it was done in violation customs regulations and law. Similar submissions were made by the M/s Makkays and M/s Crystal Traders who complained that officers in customs had heard their cases but imposed decisions while ignoring the lawful grounds regarding imposition of duties at imports of different items.

Hearing of M/s Asian Trading & Service’s case was adjourned with directions to submit supporting documents. The bench also asked the counsels to prepare final arguments in the case following tribunal’s directive to complete hearing of old cases on the immediate basis. With the said directives, the tribunal dated in office the hearing of said case for further scheduling of date of hearing.
