Customs authorities all set to arrest suspects involved in smuggling of ‘amphetamine’

KARACHI: The Customs authorities deputed at Jinnah International Airport-Pakistan (JIAP) have almost completed their investigations into the case of smuggling contraband chemical “amphetamine” from London to Karachi, it is learnt here.

Sources informed Customs Today that a team of Customs Collectorate-Preventive headed by Additional Collector Feroz Alam Junejo investigated the case and collected evidences.

The sources disclosed that the Customs authorities have reached the point where they can arrest the suspects who were involved in smuggling of “amphetamine” chemical, which is dangerous and used in explosives material for making bombs.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Customs authorities during the last six months have seized two consignments of the said chemical “amphetamine” from two different destinations.

The first consignment of “amphetamine” chemical was seized by the Customs authorities from Pakistan International Containers Terminal (PICT) during examination, some five months back.

The Collector Customs Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda was also held a press conference in this regard and stated that the consignment of the said deadly chemical was efficiently interrupted and seized by the Customs authorities; adding that the first consignment was destined to Peshawar.

Furthermore, the second consignment of “amphetamine” chemical was seized by the authorities concerned of Customs Preventive from JIAP which was intercepted by the Customs authorities at airport.

It may be mentioned here that the “amphetamine” chemical is very costly and it has a high value chemical in international market.

The sources disclosed that the Customs authorities would also call a press conference in upcoming days in which they would further apprise the details of the entire case.
