Customs seizes Indian zeera, offending vehicle worth Rs 3.217m

ISLAMABAD: The anti-smuggling squad of the Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad has seized Indian zeera (cumin ) and one offending vehicle worth Rs 3.217 million.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan told Customs Today that the Customs staff established check points at Abbasi Hotel Kashmir Road Kahuta Rawalpindi and seized 9,000 kg Zeera with brand name Jeera ICLP (Patal Kanjibhi Lulludas),(1x30kgx300 bags) and one Hino truck bearing registration number LES-7178.

Deputy Collector said that the Hino truck was coming from Ponch Area Kashmir, through search of the offending vehicle led to the recovery of Jeera (Product of India), the total value of the seized Zeera is Rs 1.417 million.

Shahid Jan said that as possessor of the impounded vehicles failed to produce any evidence documentary or otherwise, showing legal import and lawful passion of the recovered foreign origin goods.

He said the value of said offending vehicle is Rs1.8 million in term of Section 156(1) and 157 of the Customs Act 1969 after serving notice under section 171 of customs Act upon the accused person.

He said that anti-smuggling activity will continue during next financial year 2016-17 with more effective and modern techniques according to directions provided by the Chairman (FBR) and Collector Dr Arslan against the non-duty paid and offending vehicles.
